Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
As an emerging expert, maintains data files and control procedures for a complex system of networked computers or for a single group of microcomputers linked to a host workstation, or mainframe. Responsible for system security and data integrity. Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources, backs up files as required and works with management to define requests for information.
 
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Ability to evaluate, test and deploy infrastructure hardware and software
- Ability to provide technical support to clients and business units
- Ability to perform extensive troubleshooting, performance tuning, capacity planning, and trending analysis
- Ability to provide installation, maintenance, and tuning of hardware and software systems
- Ability to install and configure Operating Systems Software
- Ability to install and configure Cluster Services to support high availability databases
- Ability to install and configure web servers and software
- Ability to install and configure automation and monitoring tools
- Ability to interface extensively with Technical Services Teams, Application Teams, and Business Unit
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- BA/BS degree
- Minimum 8 years experience as Linux System Administrator
- Experience and deep understanding of installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting current and legacy Linux OS, servers, and desktops (RPM-based), in enterprise environments
- Thorough understanding of Active Directory principals, management and best practices
- Security concepts including firewall configurations, server configurations, and desktop client applications
- Experience with VMWare setup, configuration, operation and troubleshooting
- Enterprise Storage Systems, Fiber Channel Switching, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies
- Understanding of basic and advanced networking concepts and protocols (IP addressing/subnet masks, DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc.) and network diagnostic tools (protocol analysis with tcpdump/Wireshark)
- Knowledge of Transport mechanisms including FTP, SSH/SCP, HTTP, SSL
- Experience and proficiency installing, configuring, and maintaining FLEXnet Manager sw to manage multiple FLEXnet licenses
CERTIFICATIONS:
- RHCA or RHCE
- RHCoE in Performance Tuning
- VCP or VCAP
- Certs required per SECNAV M-5239.2
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
