Under general supervision, performs various analysis, design, and/or assembly related to product design, manufacturing, software, or engineering projects. Defines, interprets, and develops quality standards for receiving, in-process, and final inspection in accordance with company and contractual requirements. Performs technical surveillance of a complex nature in the control of product, design concepts, software, and specification requirements.
Assesses processes for their relevance, and assesses the adequacy of engineering equipment. Reviews existing data to see if more/new research and information need to be collated. Installs and may design new production units, monitors modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes. Applies the principles of mass, momentum and heat transfer to process and equipment design, including conceptual, scheme and detail design. Participates in process development experiments to scale in a laboratory. Prepares reports, flow diagrams and charts as needed. Assesses the availability of raw materials and the safety and environmental impact of the site; Supports the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations. Works closely with chemical engineers to monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of a site. Ensures the process works at the optimum level, to the right rate and quality of output, in order to meet supply needs. Makes observations and takes measurements directly, as well as collects and interprets data from the other technical and operating staff involved. Ensures that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations. May provide leadership in the areas of productivity, manufacturing processing, equipment and process improvement, quality engineering, software quality, software configuration management, and procurement quality engineering.
