In this position, you will research, design and develop computer software systems used for geospatial and temporal data analysis. The process of software development in this position adheres to the Agile process, and includes planning and estimation of task complexity, development of new capabilities and bug fixes, and demonstrations of completed capabilities. Software development occurs in Java, with the candidate producing high-quality code. Code quality is measured by automated processes and human review, and no code is accepted into the baseline without passing these checkpoints. A successful candidate will produce user interfaces in Java Swing and JavaFX 8, and supporting application framework implementations.
Success for newly developed capabilities is measured in part using unit, functional and regression testing strategies. Upon completion, all software changes will be submitted for review by at least one other team member, and individuals are responsible for reviewing submitted changes from other members of the team. In addition to new capabilities, candidates for this position participate in the maintenance of deployed capabilities, aiding support personnel in diagnosing, proposing, and implementing fixes to reported problems. Maintaining software requires occasional contact with end users, as part of a coordinated support strategy.
Typically requires bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related major or equivalent, and two to four years of related work experience.
