Description:

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning, installation, maintenance, and management of the network equipment
- Tests and analyzes all elements of the network facilities including power, software, security features, communications devices, inside wiring, circuits, and terminals
- Responsible for the planning, modeling, simulation, design, installation, configuration, maintenance, management, and coordination of the network
- Provide Tier 2/3 support utilizing software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose complex problems and factors affecting network performance
- Maintain enterprise level network management system
- Maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging network systems technologies, architectures and products
- Develop specifications, test plans, test cases, and documentation of test results
- Communicating with the end user and team members
- Configuration, support, and documentation of complex data networks
- Network security and authentication
- Network tools and functions (such as Ethereal, Solarwinds Orion, HP NNMI)
- Network Management best practices

Needed technologies:
TCP/IP Routing, DHCP, Cisco ACS Tacacs+/Radius, F5 load balancers including iRules, Juniper firewalls and Juniper SSL VPN devices, Mcafee Sidewinders, Cisco IOS Routing/Switching

Other skills:
- Networking in a Solaris, Unix, Microsoft and VMware environment
- Prior support of medium-sized to large-sized networking environment.
- Familiarity with DoD IA environment including STIGs, 140-2 FIPS, DISA circuit procurement, troubleshooting and maintenance
- DNS and DNSSEC knowledge

Certifications:
- Security+ preferred but required within 6 months of hire
- CCNA preferred but required within 6 months of hire

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a recognized authority, responsible for the long-term planning for switch network, including circuit forecasts, traffic studies, budgets, and other network performance reports. Plans integration of new switches into network. Ensures that traffic planning software is developed and revised to accurately report traffic levels. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership in integrating vendor, manufacturer, and technical knowledge into the network environment. Provides network documentation, training, and guidance to computing system clients and programmers. Serves as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies. Troubleshoots and resolves complex network production problems. Conducts technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system. Recommends network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-range network projects. Oversees installation, configuration and maintenance of network components. Determines plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout. Installs, upgrades, and configures network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services. Establishes user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed. Works as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems. Works with vendors to resolve complex network problems. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires bachelor's degree and 10 to 12 years of telecommunication analysis experience.
Requires a Security Plus certification as well as Cisco and/or Foundry experience in performing the following tasks: switching and have demonstrated an understanding in enterprise networks. Shall also have a solid understanding of IP management (DHCP/DNS) and long-haul communications. Shall have CCNP and or CCNA certification. Individual shall possess at least 12 years hands on-experience. High School/GED - 12 yrs experience, Associates degree - 10 yrs, Bachelors degree - 8 yrs, Masters degree - 6 yrs, and Doctorate - 4 yrs.
